Upcoming Mobile Apps

1. SeeMeTV

YouTube for the phone. Available in the UK since 2005,   SeeMeTV lets its subscribers submit videos that their friends and family–and even strangers–can watch for a small fee. The video’s creator gets a 10% “royalty” for every view. There have been over 4 million reported downloads since SeeMeTV’s launch, making it the world’s most popular user-generated mobile service, despite the fact that it’s still unavailable in the U.S.

2. Habbo Hotel

Billed as a hangout for teens, the hotel is actually a virtual community that combines gaming with online chat. Getting into the hotel is free, but Habbo Hotel guests pay for room furnishings and entertainment. Habbo is available worldwide for the PC, but not so widely for the mobile version, which has been released piecemeal, country by country, starting in Japan.

3.  Kamera Jiten

Digital dictionaries are nothing new, but Kamera Jiten, created by Japanese firm MediaSeek, scans English words with a phone’s camera, matches them to words in the phone’s database, and then translates them to Japanese. Right now, it only translates from English to Japanese, so if you’re reading this, you probably don’t need it. Currently only available in Japan, the company hopes to expand to other languages in the future.
